Privacy Policy

IsoRide is built with privacy as a core principle. We collect the minimum data necessary to provide weather-based cycling recommendations, and we never track, profile, or sell your information.

Information We Collect

Location data. IsoRide accesses your device's precise location while the app is in use, for two purposes: to fetch weather conditions for your area, and to calculate distances on your device, such as how far you are from a saved shelter. To retrieve local conditions, your coordinates are sent to a small number of weather providers: Apple WeatherKit (forecasts), the U.S. EPA's AirNow and Open-Meteo (air quality), and RainViewer (radar). What each one receives is spelled out under Third-Party Services below. We do not operate any server that collects your location, and your location is never logged by us, profiled, or sold.

For performance, IsoRide caches your most recent location on-device (in Apple's UserDefaults, scoped to the app's sandbox) so the first forecast on cold launch and background weather updates can render without waiting on a fresh GPS fix. Only the most recent point is retained, no history, no trail, no aggregation. The cached value is replaced on every new GPS fix and is erased entirely when you delete the app.

Third-Party Services

Apple WeatherKit. We use Apple's WeatherKit service to provide forecast data. When the app fetches weather, your device latitude and longitude are included in the request so Apple can return conditions for your exact location. Apple's use of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

AirNow (U.S. EPA). To show local air quality, IsoRide requests the current AQI from AirNow, the official air-quality service run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Your latitude and longitude, rounded to about 11 meters, are sent as part of the request, along with your device's IP address as with any web request. AirNow is a government air-quality service, not an advertiser, it returns AQI readings and does not profile you or track you across apps. Air-quality lookups happen only in the app itself, never in the home-screen widget.

Open-Meteo. Outside the United States, where AirNow has no coverage, IsoRide requests the current air-quality index from Open-Meteo's public air-quality API instead. As with AirNow, your latitude and longitude (rounded to about 11 meters) and your device's IP address are sent as part of the request. Open-Meteo returns AQI readings only; it has no account, no API key, and does not profile or track you. Air-quality lookups happen only in the app itself, never in the home-screen widget.

RainViewer. The rain-radar map is powered by RainViewer's public radar tiles. To draw the map, the app requests image tiles for the region around you; those tile requests reveal your approximate area (roughly a regional view, not a precise point) and, like any web request, your device's IP address. No account, no API key, and no precise coordinates are sent, RainViewer receives nothing you've entered: no name, no account, no precise point. The radar map is only loaded when you open it, never in the background or in the widget.

IsoRide remote settings (isoride.app). On launch and when refreshing, IsoRide downloads a small static settings file from our own address, isoride.app, hosted on Cloudflare. This lets us fine-tune thresholds (for example, how much rain counts as "raining") without shipping an app update. The request carries no coordinates, no device identifiers, and no account, only the ordinary information any web request includes, such as your IP address, which Cloudflare's edge sees in transit. We do not run a server that stores or analyzes this; it is a plain file download.

Apple Maps (search & base maps). When you use the location or shelter search box, the text you type is sent to Apple as you type, along with a rough region around your current location to bias the results, so Apple can suggest and resolve places. The radar and shelter map screens also load Apple's standard map tiles for the area you're viewing, which necessarily reflects your approximate location. This is Apple's Maps service; its use of the data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchase). If you purchase IsoRide Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit framework and the App Store. IsoRide receives only a cryptographically signed transaction receipt indicating you own the Pro entitlement, we do not see or store your payment method, billing address, full Apple ID, or any other purchase metadata. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple Media Services Terms.

No ads. No analytics SDKs. Aside from the weather and map services listed above, each contacted only to fetch conditions or draw a map, IsoRide includes no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or third-party tracking framework. There is no AdMob, no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Sentry, no Crashlytics. We do not display advertisements of any kind, and none of the services above send us usage data about you.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following preferences and caches are stored locally on your device using Apple's UserDefaults and are never transmitted to any server we operate:

• Unit system preference (metric or imperial)
• Appearance and color theme settings
• Safety buffer duration
• Shelter location, name, and saved favorite shelters (if configured)
• Notification permission status and alert level
• Ride-style preferences (temperature comfort, wind sensitivity, AQI tolerance, UV warnings, fallback profile, and morning / evening commute hours)
• Calendar sync preference + chosen sync style. When you turn this on, IsoRide writes ride-verdict events (best ride window, temperature range, wind, and rain chance, no coordinates) into your calendar. If your default calendar is an iCloud calendar, those events sync through your own iCloud account to your other devices, the same as any calendar event you create; if it's a local calendar, they stay on this device. We never see these events.
• Most-recent device location (cached so cold launches and background weather updates have somewhere to start; replaced on every new GPS fix)
• Pro entitlement status, cached from your App Store receipt so locked features don't flash on cold launch (the actual receipt is held by iOS, not us)
• Whether you've completed onboarding

Diagnostic data. IsoRide subscribes to Apple's MetricKit framework, which provides daily app-performance metrics (launch counts, hangs, scroll responsiveness) and diagnostic payloads on crashes. These payloads are stored on-device in the app's Documents folder and capped at 30 files. If you tap "Share diagnostic data," the exported file also includes basic device info (app version, build number, iPhone model, iOS version) and up to three recent short-term rain-forecast snapshots (per-minute precipitation readings and timestamps, no coordinates), which help us debug rain-detection issues. None of this ever leaves your device unless you explicitly tap "Share diagnostic data" in Settings, in which case it is exported to whichever app you choose (Mail, Messages, AirDrop, etc.). Nothing is sent automatically.

What We Do Not Collect

• No user accounts or registration
• No email addresses or personal identifiers
• No analytics or usage tracking
• No third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, etc.)
• No advertising identifiers, advertising SDKs, or cross-app tracking
• No user-level location history
• No payment information (handled entirely by Apple)

Data Retention

IsoRide has no accounts and no server that stores your data. The only thing we host is a single static settings file at isoride.app (described under Third-Party Services), which the app downloads but never uploads to , it holds none of your data. Your preferences, caches, and location stay on your device; the weather and map services above receive your location only in the moment, to return conditions or draw a map, and we get none of it back. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device.

Children's Privacy

IsoRide does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app does not require registration or collect personal data of any kind.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
